    Tours and Talks

I have now retired from commercial photography and relocated to Carmarthenshire in Wales. Whilst not offering formal photography services anymore I undertake personal projects. As an experienced traveller (I ran a trekking business in Nepal) I am available to lead photography tours and give private tuition etc.

I am available as a speaker for camera clubs in the south Wales area. My talks provide an entertaining evening about images in general and about a trip I undertook to photograph the eagle hunters in Mongolia.

    Digital Camera Magazine Tear Sheet

    The Story

After a career in Local government I started my own company running tours in the Himalayas which in turn lead to an interest in photography.

In 2008 I was the winner of the Renaissance Photography Prize and my entry was described by Eamonn McCabe as being 'technically accomplished' and by Mary McCartney 'an incredibly engaging image'. I have won numerous other prizes, including being runner up in Digital Camera Magazine's Photographer of the Year Competition. I have had work published widely in magazines like Digital Camera Magazine, The Dorset Magazine, Muse Magazine, Scarlet Magazine, Real Travel Magazine, The Independent Magazine and The Daily Express. My work has also been recognised as an 'Image of the Day' in the Times newspaper. I have also been exhibited at Proud Galleries in London.

Having moved to Wales three years ago I have started concentrating more on the natural landscape around me in this most beautiful of countries. You will find some landscape photos in the portfolio section of the site

Integrating Lightroom with a Shopping Cart (and Paypal)

A while ago I worked out a clever 'kludge' for integrating a shopping cart into Lightroom. Not being a programmer it wasn't fantastic but worked well and generated a lot of interest. Since redesigning the website I haven't had time to redo this page so the original code is here for now. I will get back to this soon - but cannot answer questions for now.

    Any Style of Photography

As you can see from my portfolio I can do pretty much any style of photography including studio work and Photoshop manipulation. Being retired I now only undertake projects that interest me.

So if you need a talk for your camera club or some photos of a special project why not get in touch and see if you can 'whet my appetite'. The more unusual the project, the more interested I'm likely to be. I'd be particularly interested in hearing from minority groups etc. or unusual people who are looking to document their lives or work etc.

Time For Prints for Aspiring Models

I am sometimes able to offer Time for Prints; contact me if you are interested. This page explains a little of the concept of TFP. Time for Prints is basically co-operation for mutual benefit between a model and photographer.

The model puts in her/his time, resources and effort. The photographer does the same. No fee changes hands. Both the model and the photographer cover their own expenses and benefit from each other's skills and talents. As the name suggests the model's fee consists of photographic prints or digital images. TFP/CD is meant to be a low budget affair. More often than not, the model will be required to do her (his) own hair and make-up and supply her (his) own clothes.

Approach a prints for time shoot with professionalism. You should of course have fun but a good photographer is not going to want to waste his time. In my case I could be using several thousand pounds worth of equipment exclusively on your shoot. There has to be a shared balance of responsibilities. Don't expect the photographer to do all the work and do not expect the photographer to treat the shoot simply as a free portfolio shoot for you. You should not have to pay any money to the photographer! The only exception to this rule is when you want to buy additional prints or digital images, but you should always receive some free photographs. Although how much post shoot processing is included will be open to discussion. Only interested in hearing from those with a passion for images!
